Questions on alleged presence of Russian aircraft in Syria redirected to Defense Ministry

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has redirected questions on alleged presence of Russia aircraft in Syria to the Defense Ministry.

"We have already explained absolutely everything here - all the answers have been given to similar questions. Of course, some additional questions of the kind should be addressed to the Defense Ministry," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters, responding to a request to comment on the foreign media allegations about the appearance of Russian aircraft in Syria.

According to the Kremlin official, the Defense Ministry gives "laconic answers" to the corresponding media questions. "And why should we expand, if they give laconic answers to these questions?" Peskov said.

Russia, Israel agree on exchanging info on Syria

According to the spokesman, Russia and Israel have agreed to establish a channel on exchanging information on the situation in Syria.

"As the situation in Syria continues to be extremely tense and it mostly tends to deteriorate, in this case, due to partnership relations between Russia and Israel, we considered it necessary to establish a channel on exchanging information in such a sensitive sphere," Peskov said.

The issue was discussed at the talks between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, he said.

At the talks, the sides "discussed the need for a greater exchange of information and information coordination between Russia and Israel," Peskov said.

"Here it is not important at all who is on the site," Peskov said when speaking about Russia’s instructors in Syria.

The sides also focused on bilateral relations, the current situation, trade and economic cooperation, investment and also on developing technologies. "This was discussed in detail already in a broader format."

  1. France and Britain alarmed by Russian buildup in Syria....

France and Britain expressed their concern Thursday about the Russian military buildup in Syria after Moscow said it would conduct naval drills in the eastern Mediterranean.

French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, speaking on a day of intense European diplomacy on the conflict, called on Moscow to justify the "very significant" Russian buildup.

Le Drian said: "We know what everyone can see, the very significant buildup of Russian forces both in the port of Tartus and above all, with the setting-up of a military airport to the south of Latakia and the presence of several fighter jets, combat helicopters and drone capacity there."

He said if Russia's main intention was "to protect President Bashar al-Assad", it should say so.

British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, speaking alongside Le Drian after they held talks, said he was "equally concerned" by the Russian buildup in Syria "which will only complicate what's already a very complicated and difficult situation".

Fallon warned that the focus on Russia should not divert attention from the need to deal with Islamic State jihadists operating in Syria.

"We should not divert our focus from the need to deal with the threat of Daesh, the very direct threat to Britain and France, and the instability that Daesh is posing in both Syria and Iraq," he said, using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State (IS)...................AFP...............ahram.org.eg
