WikiLeaks said its "Espionnage Élysée" files include secret NSA intelligence reports and technical documents on the communications of high-level French officials over the past 10 years.
The documents derive from NSA surveillance of Hollande as well as former presidents Sarkozy (2007–2012) and Chirac (1995–2007). French cabinet ministers and the French ambassador to the United States were also targeted.
- Among the issues addressed in the intercepted communications were "some of the most pressing issues facing France and the international community," WikiLeaks said, including the global financial crisis, the Greek debt crisis and the leadership of the European Union.
- Sarkozy is said to have considered restarting Israeli-Palestinian peace talks without US involvement and Hollande is reported to have feared a Greek euro zone exit back in 2012.
French efforts "to determine the make-up of the executive staff of the United Nations and a dispute between the French and US governments over US spying on France" were also discussed.
The latest revelations are likely to ignite a firestorm of controversy in France, as did previous allegations of US spying on French and German leaders. Reports that the NSA had wiretapped German Chancellor Angela Merkel's private phone sparked a political scandal in Germany and prompted an official inquiry into the extent of the German intelligence services' co-operation with the United States.
Michele Alliot-Marie, French former defence and foreign affairs minister under Chirac and Sarkozy, told France’s iTele TV channel that France had long known that the US had the technical means to try to intercept conversations.
“We are not naive, the conversations that took place between the defence ministry and the president did not happen on the telephone,” she said. “That being said, it does raise the problem of the relationship of trust between allies.”
'Greater insight into US spying'
“While the German disclosures focused on the isolated fact that senior officials were targeted by US intelligence, WikiLeaks’ publication today provides much greater insight into US spying on its allies,” WikiLeaks said.
This includes “the actual content of intelligence products deriving from the intercepts, showing how the US spies on the phone calls of French leaders and ministers for political, economic and diplomatic intelligence”.
France and Germany led a 2013 push to outline a spying "code of conduct" in conjunction with the United States following reports of NSA monitoring activities that caused an outcry among European citizens.
Previous diplomatic cables published on the WikiLeaks website dating from the 1970s revealed that US diplomats at the time were closely monitoring two future French presidents, Chirac and his predecessor, François Mitterrand.
The French president’s office was not immediately reachable for comment.
WikiLeaks said French readers could “expect more timely and important revelations in the near future".
Last week, WikiLeaks published more than 60,000 diplomatic cables from Saudi Arabia and said on its website it would release half a million more in the coming weeks.

ReplyDeleteΗ NSΑ κατασκόπευε την περίοδο 2006-2012 τους προέδρους της Γαλλίας Ζακ Σιράκ, Νικολά Σαρκοζί και Φρανσουά Ολάντ, σύμφωνα με έγγραφα τα οποία έφερε στο φως το WikiLeaks και επικαλούνται ο ειδησεογραφικός ιστότοπος Mediapart και η καθημερινή εφημερίδα Liberation.
Τα έγγραφα αυτά, τα οποία έχουν διαβαθμιστεί ως «άκρως απόρρητα», συμπεριλαμβάνουν πέντε εκθέσεις της NSA βασισμένες στις «υποκλοπές των επικοινωνιών» των τριών προέδρων της Γαλλίας (Σιράκ, Σαρκοζί, Ολάντ) οι οποίες προορίζονταν για τα ανώτερα κλιμάκια της «κοινότητας των πληροφοριών» των ΗΠΑ, σημειώνει η Liberation.
Σύμφωνα με τις πληροφορίες, ο σοσιαλιστής Ολάντ, που ήταν στην εξουσία μόλις μερικές ημέρες, είχε απογοητευτεί από την πρώτη του συνάντηση ως πρόεδρος με την συντηρητική καγκελάριο της Γερμανίας Άνγκελα Μέρκελ και είχε ζητήσει να συνομιλήσει με ηγέτες του Σοσιαλδημοκρατικού Κόμματος της Γερμανίας (SPD), συγκυβερνώντος κόμματος του κυβερνητικού συνασπισμού.
Το WikiLeaks γράφει ότι η Γαλλία ήθελε την Ελλάδα να παραμείνει στην ευρωζώνη, και ότι υποστήριζε την υποχρέωση της Ελλάδας να κάνει μεταρρυθμίσεις και να σεβαστεί τους δανειακούς όρους της, αλλά υποστήριζε επίσης ότι η υπερβολική λιτότητα δεν αποτελεί τη σωστή τακτική.
«Ο Ολάντ επέμενε ότι η συνάντηση θα μείνει μυστική», αναφέρει ο ιστότοπος βάσει υποκλοπών της NSA από τις 22 Μαίου 2012, λέγοντας για τις συνομιλίες ότι ήθελε να συζητήσει με τους «αρμόδιους υπουργούς» τις συνέπειες μιας πιθανής εξόδου της Ελλάδας στη γαλλική οικονομία και τις τράπεζες. «Ο Γάλλος πρόεδρος φαίνεται να ανησυχεί ότι αν κυκλοφορήσει προς τα έξω ότι το Παρίσι σκέφτεται σοβαρά τη πιθανότητα μιας εξόδου της Ελλάδας, θα βαθύνει η κρίση».
Σύμφωνα με την συζήτηση που υπεκλάπη, ο Ολάντ είχε παραπονεθεί ότι η Μέρκελ φαινόταν να είχε «νίψει τας χείρας της» για την Ελλάδα όταν συναντήθηκε μαζί της στο Βερολίνο. «Αυτό δημιούργησε μεγάλη ανησυχία στον Ολάντ για την Ελλάδα και τους Έλληνες, οι οποίοι θα μπορούσαν να αντιδράσουν με το να ψηφίσουν ένα ακροδεξιό κόμμα», ενώ αργότερα ο Ολάντ προσκάλεσε στο Παρίσι τον ηγέτη του SPD για συνομιλίες, οι οποίες έγιναν στις 13 Ιουνίου 2012.........huffingtonpost.gr

ReplyDeleteFrench President Francois Hollande is holding an emergency meeting with the country's top security officials to respond to WikiLeaks documents saying that the U.S. National Security Agency eavesdropped on the last three French presidents.
A French presidential aide said Wednesday's meeting was convened to evaluate the information released and draw relevant conclusions. The aide was not authorized to be publicly named.
The documents published in French daily newspaper Liberation and investigative website Mediapart late Tuesday include material that appeared to capture officials in Paris talking candidly about Greece's economy and relations with Germany........AP.....ctvnews.ca

France summons US envoy over Wikileaks claims...
ReplyDeleteFrance has summoned the US envoy in Paris over claims that the US spied on President Francois Hollande and his two predecessors, officials say.
Whistleblower website Wikileaks reports the US National Security Agency (NSA) spied on Mr Hollande, Nicolas Sarkozy and Jacques Chirac between 2006-12.
Mr Hollande called the allegations "unacceptable" and is expected to speak with President Obama over the claims.
The US said it would not comment on "specific intelligence allegations". ....BBC
