Moscow blames Kiev, countries behind it for putting their interests above humanity

MOSCOW, August 22ю /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow blamed Kiev and countries behind it for putting their interests above humanity and compassion, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

“Hypocritical lecturing of our country from other capitals will follow Kiev insinuations within a few hours and days,” Ryabkov said with confidence. “Primitive and predictable nature of everything that we hear in the West does not need long comments,” the high-ranking diplomat said, adding that “We reply in advance: before teaching others how to live, take a look at yourself. Just think how your words are being crossed out by your deeds.”

“We are confident about our truth,” he said, adding that “We accuse Kiev and countries behind it that they continue putting their political, essentially anti-Russian interests above unshakable rules of love for humankind and compassion.

  • At Germany’s initiative, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

On the eve of Ms Merkel’s visit to Kiev on August 23, the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. In particular, they discussed steps that Russia and Germany could take to help bring about a swift end to the military operations and get internal political dialogue underway in Ukraine.
Mr Putin said that given the needless delay Kiev caused in delivering Russian humanitarian aid to the people living through a humanitarian disaster in southeast Ukraine, the decision to send the convoy of vehicles on its way was made. Further delay would have been unacceptable.
Mr Putin also expressed serious concern that continued escalation of the Kiev government’s military operations in Donetsk and Lugansk Regions would lead to more loss of life among civilians.
Mr Putin and Ms Merkel agreed to continue their contacts on the situation in Ukraine.

  1. Readout of the President’s Call with Chancellor Merkel of Germany...

The President spoke today with Chancellor Merkel of Germany regarding the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, which has continued to deteriorate since the tragic downing of the Malaysian airliner last month. The two leaders agreed that Russia sending a convoy into Ukraine without Ukraine’s approval is a further provocation and a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They expressed concern that the large numbers of Russian troops on the border of Ukraine, the presence of Russian military personnel in Ukraine, and Russian shelling of Ukrainian territory represent a dangerous escalation. They agreed that it is imperative that Russia remove its convoy from Ukrainian territory, accept the conditions previously agreed to with Ukraine and the International Red Cross for any humanitarian convoys in Ukraine, and de-escalates the situation by removing its military forces from the border region, withdrawing its weapons, vehicles and personnel from the territory of Ukraine, and stopping the flow of Russian personnel, military equipment and armored vehicles into eastern Ukraine. They also stressed the importance of a bilateral ceasefire accompanied by closure of the border and effective border monitoring.

  3. Merkel to visit as Russian convoy returns...

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is due to arrive in Ukraine, a day after calling Russia's decision to send an unauthorised aid convoy there a "dangerous escalation".

More than 100 Russian lorries entered eastern Ukraine on Friday, without permission from Ukraine's government.

After travelling to besieged rebel-held areas, some of the lorries have now begun crossing back into Russia.

Western officials fear the convoy could be part of a military intervention.

But Kremlin officials say the vehicles are only carrying generators, food and drink.

The lorries had already been waiting at the border for a week, while Russia, the Ukrainian government and the Red Cross tried to come to an agreement on their passage................http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28910215
