Barroso to Putin: EU Concerned About Possible Trade Barriers Between Russia, Ukraine

MOSCOW, October 1  - President of the European Commission Jose Barroso in a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday expressed the views of the European Union in regard to trade cooperation with Ukraine, Russia and the EU.

“We have strong concerns about the recent adoption of a decree by the Russian government proposing new trade barriers between Russia and Ukraine. We consider that the application of this decree would contravene the agreed joint conclusions and the decision to delay the provisional application of the trade related part of the Association Agreement,” Barroso’s letter to Putin reads.

Medvedev: Russia Ready to Build Bilateral Relations with Turkey

MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Turkey’s newly-elected Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on his appointment to the post, noting that Russia is ready to build a cooperative relationship with Turkey, in a letter quoted by Medvedev’s press service on Tuesday.

“Russia and Turkey are tied by long-term partner relations. I am sure that further strengthening of cooperation in the trade and economic, investment, scientific, technical, cultural, and other spheres fully meets the interests of both countries. I am ready for active joint work aimed at building multi-faceted bilateral cooperation,” Medvedev said.

Chinese, Greek FMs meet on ties (The joint statements)

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Athens Thursday with his Greek counterpart Evangelos Venizelos on bilateral ties as well as international and regional hotspot issues.

They said visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Greek leaders have reached important consensus on deepening their cooperation of mutual benefit.

Both sides will make joint efforts to implement results of the visit so as to further advance China-Greece ties and China-EU relationship.

Greek media show strong interest in Chinese premier's visit

Greek print and electronic media have given extensive coverage to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's visit, with a strong focus on the future of bilateral cooperation.

Ahead of his arrival here Thursday afternoon, several local newspapers, TV channels and news portals carried an article written by Li for Greek daily Kathimerini on the prospects of China-Greece cooperation.

New bridge to link Turkey and Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government

Turkey and Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government have agreed to enable more movement between their shared border by building a new bridge and opening five more border gates, Turkey's foreign minister announced Saturday.

Ahmet Davutoglu and Kurdish region's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani held a press conference after their meeting in Turkey's eastern province of Van.

Russia Gives Ukraine Cheap Gas, Multibillion Dollar Loan.

MOSCOW, December 17 (RIA Novosti) – Russia on Tuesday sharply lowered natural gas prices for Ukraine and provided its economically struggling neighbor with a multibillion loan package in a move that Ukraine’s government may hope will spell an end to ongoing street protests.
President Vladimir Putin announced at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in Moscow that Russia will sell gas to Ukraine’s Naftogaz energy company for $268.5 per 1,000 cubic meters, well below the current level of more than $400. Putin said, however, the price may only be lowered temporarily.
