At least a hundred people were killed and dozens more were injured as a result of an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike on a school in the Gaza Strip, Press TV reports.
According to the IDF, the school housed a Hamas command center and was targeted in a precision strike.
“The command center served as a hideout for terrorists and Hamas commanders, from which various attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel were planned and carried out,” the Israeli army press service said in a statement.
The IDF added that the school was adjacent to a mosque that served as a shelter for civilians. However, they assured of an attempt to reduce risks to the population.
Hamas condemned Israel for an airstrike that killed over 100 people at a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, calling it part of an "extermination campaign."
ReplyDeleteThe resistance group described the incident as a "horrific crime" and labeled it a significant escalation in an "unprecedented series of crimes and massacres in the history of wars."
Israel, in a statement defending the strike, claimed the school was being used as an "active compound" by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The Israeli military said it had intelligence suggesting that 20 fighters, including senior commanders from these groups, were operating from the school.
