North Korean leader's sister warns against increased presence of US after firing more missiles

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, said on Monday whether to use the Pacific Ocean as its "shooting range" depends on the United States, after firing what appears to be yet another ballistic missile off its east coast.

In a statement carried out by the state media KCNA, Kim said Pyongyang was carefully examining the impact of the increase US strategic assets' presence in the region.

North Korea has fired a pair of short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast, according to South Korea’s military, two days after Pyongyang resumed banned testing activities with an intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

South Korea’s military said it “strongly” condemned the two launches as an act of “significant provocation”. They took place from a western coastal town just north of the North Korean capital on Monday morning, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

North Korea’s state media said two projectiles were fired from a multiple rocket launcher, aiming at targets 395km (245 miles) and 337km (209 miles) away, respectively.

  1. North Korea has launched three projectiles, which appear to be ballistic missiles, Japan’s Coast Guard reported on Monday.

Japan’s Coast Guard added that the launched missiles have already landed, but did not specify the area where they fell.

Japan’s NHK broadcaster reported citing its own sources that the reportedly launched missiles fell beyond the boundaries of Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone.
