"Iran denied flatly that it supplies drones to the war against Ukraine," the Israeli president told the Atlantic Council during his visit to Washington. "I want to show you two slides that unequivocally prove that Iran and Iranian drones are participating in the war in Ukraine."
"Iran, while of course denying these slides, keeps supplying these drones and they are attacking all over Ukraine with suicide drones, special UAVs that are meant to create havoc in large scope," he continued.
The Israeli president showed two pairs of images: one pair features Israel’s Shahed 136 drone and debris of Russia’s Geran-2 drones allegedly found in Ukraine; the other - an engine of Shahed 136 and a visibly similar device allegedly found in Ukraine. According to Herzog, the four images feature identical aircraft and therefore can serve as evidence of Iranian equipment being used in Ukraine.
"This is only the tip of the iceberg of a lot of intelligence information, including, of course, clandestine intel. We are able to show this, but one has to assume: Iran is participating in the war in Ukraine, taking an action against the people of Ukraine and creating enormous suffering and pain," he added.
In August, The Washington Post published an article alleging that Iran was delivering drones to Russia. Subsequently, similar statements were made by US administration officials. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov then dismissed such claims as fake news.
Peskov said he has no information about any purchases of Iranian drones by Russia, adding that the question should be referred to the Russian Defense Ministry. He emphasized that Russia was using only domestically produced drones.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in late September that his country was not supporting any party to the Ukrainian conflict and opposed arms deliveries to both Kiev and Moscow.
