“The poverty risk rate for people over 65 increased from 14.7% to 17.4% between 2018 and 2021. Nearly one in six people over 65 in Germany is at risk of poverty, meaning they have less than 60% of the median income at their disposal,” the study was cited in the report.
According to the finding, elderly women are more likely to be at risk of poverty. The poverty risk rate for women over 65 was 19.3%, while for men it was 15.1%.In response to the findings, the left-wing faction of the Bundestag demanded government intervention, RT reported.
