IAEA establishing permanent presence at Zaporizhzhia NPP. The first tour completed: Grossi

1. Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi announced the establishment of a permanent presence of the agency at the  Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

"I just completed the first tour of the key places we wanted to see in this first approach to the whole facility. Of course, there is still much work to be done. My team remains, and more importantly and most importantly, we are establishing our continued presence from the IAEA here," Grossi said.

Most members of the delegation left the plant with him.

According to Energoatom, five representatives of the IAEA mission remained at ZNPP, unloading the equipment they brought with them and will continue to work at the plant. "They are expected to be at Zaporizhzhia NPP until September 3.

2. Between eight and 12 people from the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will remain at the Zaporozhye nucler power plant in Ukraine, Alexander Volga, the head of Energodar’s military-civilian administration, said on Thursday.

"As of now and, according to the information that I have been provided with, between eight and twelve people [from the IAEA mission] will remain staying here," Volga said speaking to journalists.

Earlier in the day, the IAEA team arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP located in the city of Energodar. The delegation is on a fact-finding mission to estimate the material damage to the plant and to evaluate the operational capabilities of the plant’s safety and security systems.

The experts are supposed to assess the staff’s working conditions and take urgent measures to provide safety and security guarantees for the facility.
