Serbia, Kosovo Leaders ‘Make No Progress’ at Brussels Meeting | Balkan Insight

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told media that the meeting on Thursday in the Belgian capital between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti did not yield any progress towards resolving current tensions.

Borell said after a series of meetings, which lasted over five hours, that “we did not get to an agreement today but it is not an end to the story”.

The meetings took place after tensions escalated two weeks ago when Kosovo Serbs protested against a Kosovo government decision to impose new entry and exit procedures for people with Serbian documents and the re-registration of cars with Serbian car plates.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will address the nation on Friday over fruitless talks with Albin Kurti, the prime minister of the unrecognized Republic of Kosovo, the Tanjug news agency reported on Thursday, citing a member of Serbia’s delegation.

"President Vucic will make a public address upon return to Belgrade tomorrow. It will be one of his most important addresses," Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said.

Earlier, Vucic and other members of the Serbian delegation declined to make comments to the press following talks with Kurti in Brussels. "We thought that reaching a compromise was possible. None of our delegation’s members will make any statements," Petkovic stressed.
