The management of "Gazprom" on July 30 decided to stop gas supplies to Latvia. The reason, according to the official data of the Russian corporation, was the violation of the conditions for the selection of "blue fuel".
Despite the fact that the Latvian parliament issued a law banning the supply of natural gas from Russia from January 1, 2023, everything happened faster.
"Today, Gazprom has stopped gas supplies to Latvia as part of the July application due to violation of the conditions for gas withdrawal," the company's press service said in a statement.
Earlier it was reported that the main Latvian operator Latvijas gaze continues to buy Russian gas using intermediaries paying for it in euros. The head of the enterprise Aigars Kalvitis informed the Delfi portal about it.
In May, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said that the country would do without Russian gas, and already in early June it became known about a sharp increase in the price of "blue fuel" for ordinary citizens by almost 90%.
