Australia's defence bases need to be ready for war: Molan

 Liberal Senator Jim Molan says it is time Australia upgraded its military bases so they are prepared for any future wars.   

It comes as the Wall Street Journal has reported the Pentagon is planning to upgrade Australian defence bases and the United States’ bases in Guam to counter the growing military threat posed by China.

“If we just want to rest our aircraft out on tarmacs, we’re going to lose them, we’re going to lose them all,” Mr Molan told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“And it’s not just inter-continental ballistic missiles that will strike them down, the Chinese have any number of submarines which can fire Tomahawk-like missiles from a thousand kilometres away which can strike these bases.

“So we’ve got to change our approach entirely.”
