Islamic State terrorists still in Afghanistan, Taliban trying to get rid of them — Putin - TASS

Terrorist groups, including the Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) remain in Afghanistan, President Vladimir Putin told a plenary meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club on Thursday.

"We see what is going on inside Afghanistan. Unfortunately, groups, including ISIS, remain there," Putin said. "Russia sees examples when the Taliban movement (outlawed in Russia) is trying to somehow get rid of these radical groups," the president said.

According to Putin, it is "vitally important" for Russia and China to have "a peaceful, developing Afghanistan" near their borders, Afghanistan that is not a source of terrorism and radicalism.
