Australia : Federal government's travel ban felt like it had 'element of discrimination'

 --

More justification was needed for the government's travel ban because it felt like the measures taken had some "element of discrimination", according to Council of Indian Australians President Nitin Shukla.

"The government should have justified a bit more than what they have done just putting the ban - and these measures felt like that there has been some element of discrimination," Mr Shukla said.

"We're not saying it's there but it just sounded and felt like that for some of them - which we know it wasn't the intent but it's just about saving and safeguarding the people here as well - and we understand.

"Having those robust quarantine processes and purpose-based facilities in place for the people who are coming from overseas would have been better - and they had all the time last year to build those things in place."
