The Czech Republic is expelling 18 employees of the Russian embassy


The Czech Republic is expelling 18 employees of the Russian embassy, who are Russian intelligence officers in the Czech special services’ version, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jan Hamacek, who is also Acting Foreign Minister, said at news conference on Saturday.



"As the Czech foreign minister, I decided to expel all the employees of the Russian embassy in Prague who have been clearly identified by our special services as officers of the Russian intelligence agencies SVR and GRU. Within 48 hours, 18 staff members of the Russian embassy must leave the Czech Republic," he said.

  1. Prague knows about the consequences that will follow the expulsion of 18 Russian diplomats from the Czech Republic, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS on Saturday.

    "Prague is well aware what follows such ‘tricks’," she said.

La República Checa expulsará a 18 diplomáticos de la Embajada de Rusia en el país por sospechas de que los servicios de inteligencia rusos estuvieron involucrados en la explosión de un depósito militar en 2014, anunció este sábado el primer ministro, Andrej Babis, y el ministro de Exteriores, Jan Hamacek.

      Asimismo, el Gobierno checo acusó a los integrantes de la misión diplomática rusa de ser espías militares del Kremlin y les concedió 48 horas para abandonar el país.

      Tras el anuncio de la expulsión de los diplomáticos rusos, la portavoz del Ministerio de Exteriores de Rusia, María Zajárova, aseveró que "Praga sabe bien qué va a pasar después de estos trucos", sin ofrecer más detalles sobre las potenciales contramedidas de Moscú.
