Police too ‘understaffed’ and ‘insufficiently equipped’ to handle mob: Capitol Security Review

--

A security review of the US Capitol has found the police force tasked with protecting Congress was not prepared to secure the complex or members when they came under mob siege on January 6.

“The US Capitol Police were understaffed, insufficiently equipped and inadequately trained to secure the Capitol and members when violently attacked by a large mob,” the review said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tasked retired Army Lieutenant General Russel Honore to lead the Capitol Security Review, producing a 15-page document which identifies changes that can be made to improve the security of the Capitol, members and staff. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy raised his concerns Speaker Pelosi wanted to turn the Capitol into a “fortress”.
