The Russian government has expelled Swedish, German and Polis diplomats this Friday, accusing them of taking part in protests for the release of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.
This comes the same day as EU Foreign Affairs chief Josep Borrell met his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, and as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were holding talks on security this afternoon.
The latter voiced his “strong condemnation” of Russia’s move.
