Israel says it has hit Iranian targets in Syria after missiles were fired at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights

Golan Heights
Israel has attacked dozens of Iranian targets in Syria in response to a rocket salvo against its army bases in the Golan Heights, according to the Israeli military.

Israel also struck five Syrian anti-aircraft batteries that fired at its planes, the statement said.

After Iranian forces in Syria shelled Israeli army outposts across the Syrian frontier, Israel launched one of its heaviest strikes in Syria since its civil war began in 2011.

An Israeli military spokesman has said Russia was forewarned of the strikes.

The attack into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights marks the first time Iranian forces have hit Israel from Syria, where they have deployed along with Iran-backed Shi'ite militias to support President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war.

  1. Israel's military says Iranian forces have fired rockets at its positions in the occupied Golan Heights.
It said around 20 rockets were fired by Iran's Revolutionary Guard early on Thursday and some were intercepted, adding that there were no casualties.

  2. The missile barrage, reportedly launched by Israeli warplanes from outside Syrian territory, took place late Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning and targeted areas in the Quneitra and Homs areas near Damascus. Syrian air defense systems responded and shot down "tens" of incoming missiles, according to SANA.

"Some of them managed to target a number of air defense (positions), radar and an ammunition depot," the source cited by SANA said.
