Turkish jets destroy PYD/PKK targets
Turkish jets on Sunday destroyed observation posts and many other targets of PYD/PKK terrorists in Afrin, Syria.


The strikes were reported after Turkish jets had been heard flying in southern Hatay province's Reyhanli and Kirikhan districts near Syrian border.

Explosions were also heard in Turkish side of border from Afrin after the jets crossed Turkey-Syria border.

  1. TSK (Turkish Armed Forces) has started airborne operations,” Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said at a party congress on Saturday, as quoted by Hurriyet. Yildirim said eight F-16 aircraft were involved in the aerial sortie.

La Russie s'est déclarée samedi "préoccupée" et a appelé à la "retenue", après l'annonce par la Turquie d'une offensive terrestre et aérienne en Syrie contre une milice kurde considérée par Ankara comme une organisation terroriste. Les militaires russes sont retirés de la zone d'Afrine, a indiqué de son côté l'armée russe.

      "Le 20 janvier, la Turquie a eu recours à ses forces armées près d'Afrine, dans le nord-ouest de la Syrie (...) Moscou est préoccupé par ces informations", a déclaré le ministère russe des Affaires étrangères dans un communiqué, en précisant "suivre attentivement le développement de la situation". "La Russie reste fidèle à sa position concernant la recherche des issues (au conflit) en Syrie, qui se base sur le maintien de l'intégrité territoriale et le respect de la souveraineté de ce pays", rappelle le communiqué. "Nous appelons les parties opposées à faire preuve de retenue". Après le retrait partiel en décembre des troupes russes du territoire syrien, où la Russie intervient militairement depuis septembre 2015, "l'objectif principal des militaires russes qui restent dans le pays est d'assurer le respect de la trêve dans les zones de désescalade", ajoute le communiqué.

  4. Explosions were heard from the northwestern Afrin province of Syria after Turkish jets have crossed Turkey-Syria border and began pounding the area, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

    "Our Armed Forces have begun an air operation into Afrin, targeting PYD/PKK and DEAŞ," Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım confirmed the report also on Jan. 20, referring to ISIL using an Arabic acronym.

  5. Turkish war planes have launched air strikes on Kurdish positions in northern Syria, in a move likely to cause tensions with the US.
    Turkey is seeking to oust Kurdish fighters from Afrin, held by them since 2012. Some of these forces helped the US to fight the Islamic State group.
    There are also reports of pro-Turkish Syrian rebels advancing on the city.
