The Catalan president on Friday requested that his address to the regional parliament, which had initially been scheduled for a plenary session on Oct. 9 before it was suspended by Spain's Constitutional Court amid fears that the devolved government would use it to unilaterally declare independence from Spain, be delayed until the next day.
Sources from the Catalan parliament said regional leader Carles Puigdemont requested a parliamentary address on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 10, in order to study the current political situation since the fallout of Catalonia's independence referendum, which went ahead on Sunday in defiance of a Constitutional Court ruling that it was illegal.
