Iraq Ready to Chase ISIS/ISIL Members beyond Borders

Mosul TAL AFAR
Iraq’s ambassador to Iran voiced the Arab country’s readiness to chase the militants affiliated with Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group beyond the borders.

The Iraqi military forces are prepared to hunt for the Daesh members out of the borders with the permission of the governments of Baghdad and Damascus, Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Rajih Sabir Aboudi al-Mousavi told Tasnim.

During the recent operation to recapture Iraq’s northern city of Mosul, thousands of Daesh terrorists were killed and many others fled the region to Syria and elsewhere, the envoy noted, saying the Iraqi security forces are determined to go after the militants.

  • Mousavi also described the liberation of Mosul as an official termination of Daesh in Iraq, warning, however, that the terrorist group’s evil ideologies still prevail in Iraq and the region.

Last week, Iraq declared the complete liberation of Mosul some three years after the northern city fell to Daesh terrorists.

After eight months of difficult urban warfare, Iraqi military forces on June 29 captured the Mosul mosque at the heart of the strategic northern city, where Daesh had declared its de facto capital.

The recapture of Mosul, located some 400 kilometers north of Baghdad, marked the effective end of Daesh in the Arab country.

Daesh stronghold in Syria’s Raqqa is also close to falling.
