Putin sees the strikes on Syria as an attempt to divert the attention from numerous civilians casualties in Iraq

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the US attack against Syria’s facilities is an aggression against a sovereign country, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

"President Putin considers the US strikes against Syria an aggression against a sovereign country violating the norms of international law, and under a trumped-up pretext at that," Peskov said.

  • Washington’s total disregard for the use of chemical weapons by terrorists in Syria exacerbates the situation, he went on.

"Putin believes that total disregard for the use of chemical weapons by terrorists only exacerbates the situation significantly," he said.

"Putin also sees the strikes on Syria by the US as an attempt to divert the attention of the international community from numerous civilians casualties in Iraq," Peskov said.

US strike on Syria impairs Russia-US relations, does not contribute to war on terror, according to the president.

On Thursday, the US military launched a total of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Shayrat Airfield in Homs governorate, Pentagon Spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said.
