Iran urges Azerbaijan, Armenia to exercise self-restraint

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi called on Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia to exercise self-restraint, saying that dialogue and negotiations are peaceful channels for settlement of disputes.

Given the outbreak of new conflicts between the two countries’ forces, Qasemi said, Iran invited its two northern neighbors to self-restraint and recommend both sides to do their best to stabilize the situation on the ground through dialogue and negotiations.

He also hoped that international institutes shouldered with ending the struggle would perform their responsibility to end the conflict.

The spokesman also voiced Iran’s readiness for establishment of peace and security in the region with the help of both sides.

A number of Azerbaijani troops was dead when clashes mounted between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces on Feb 25 in the Karabak region, media reports said.

Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict on the Nagorno-Karabakh region started in 1988 and turned into a military clash in 1992.
