US, France, Britain to hold joint-naval drill off Iranian coast: report

American, French, and British navies are planning to hold a large-scale joint military exercise off the coast of Iran next week simulating a conflict with Tehran, the Middle East Eye website reported Friday.

The United States Naval Forces Central Command says that the drill, dubbed "Unified Trident", is intended to "enhance mutual capabilities, improve tactical proficiency and strengthen partnerships in ensuring the free flow of commerce and freedom of navigation.”

The exercise will be held off the coast of Bahrain in the Strait of Hormuz and will involve aircraft carriers, destroyers and frigates from the three countries.
