Up to 40 feared dead in massive fire at California warehouse rave

Up to forty people are feared to have been killed in a massive fire that erupted at a warehouse hosting a rave in Oakland, California, authorities said Saturday.

So far nine people have been confirmed dead and another 25 are still unaccounted for, local media reported.

Sgt. Ray Kelly, spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, told reporters during a press conference that officials are “prepared to deal with up to 30 to 40 deceased people.”

The San Jose Mercury News quoted fire officials as saying that they were told up to 70 people were at the event, part of the electronic music group the Golden Donna's west coast tour.

It was not immediately known what sparked the blaze.
