Senate set to vote on 10-year extension of Iran sanction law

The Senate is moving ahead on renewing a decades-old law allowing the U.S. to slap companies with economic sanctions for doing business with Iran.

A vote is set for Thursday on a 10-year extension of the Iran Sanctions Act, so Tehran can be punished if it violates terms of the landmark nuclear deal. If the Senate approves the House-passed bill, it goes to President Barack Obama for his signature.

The White House had previously said Obama wouldn't sign the measure if it would undermine the nuclear deal.
