Gunmen attack Jordanian police in historical city of Al-Karak

A group of armed assailants carried out a powerful assault against a police patrol inside the historical city of Al-Karak, the Jordanian regime reported on Sunday afternoon.

The attack resulted in the death of at least one police officer that was on patrol near the Karak Castle, a popular tourist attraction in the Kingdom of Jordan.

Jordanian police and the armed assailants are now involved in a violent battle at the Karak Castle after the latter entered this historical site during their assault.

According to local activists, the attack was carried out by militants returning from the Syrian conflict; however, the validity of this claim could not be verified.
