Maidan revolt Kaos: Ukrainian demonstrators burn tyres, vandalise Russian bank office

A group of protesters set tyres on fire as Ukraine commemorated the day when the Maidan revolt started in November 2013.

Tyres were seen as symbolic of the uprising which toppled Kremlin-backed president Viktor Yanukovich who rejected a trade agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

Simultaneously, another group of demonstrators, some in military uniform without insignia, marched towards the office of civil movement 'Ukrainian choice' whose head Viktor Medevedchuk, Ukraine's representative in the Minsk contact group in talks to end the conflict in the country's east, is often blamed for his pro-Russian views.

Protesters shattered windows in the 'Ukrainian choice' office and Russian bank 'Sberbank' located next door.

Oleg Babanin, spokesman for 'Ukrainian choice,' said protesters were driven by their nationalist political views.

"I think they (protesters) were forced to do it by their political views, unwillingness to hold a dialogue and a desire to resolve all the issues with the use of force."

Riot police were quick to intervene and push back demonstrators.

Moscow and Kiev have been locked in conflict since Russia's annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014, and an uprising by pro-Russian separatists in east Ukraine.
