His country was committing war crimes in Iraq: German court denies asylum to United States Army deserter from Iraq war

A German court denied on Thursday an asylum request by a United States Army specialist who deserted from his base in Bavaria to avoid a second combat tour of duty in Iraq.


A Munich administrative litigation court announced its ruling against André Shepherd, 39, who had previously sued the German Federal Migration and Refugee Office (BAMF) after they initialy dismissed his asylum request.

The US citizen pleaded in his defense that his country was committing war crimes in Iraq.
