EU seeks to maintain Ukraine’s role as gas transit country: Federica Mogherini

The European Union will seek to maintain Ukraine’s role as a transit country for Russian gas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said on Monday.


"The Council stated very clearly last time when we had conclusions on energy that for us it is strategically important to maintain the role of Ukraine as a transit country," Mogherini said.

The throughput capacity of Ukraine’s gas transmission system (GTS) is 110 billion cubic meters. Transit of Russian gas through the Ukraine’s GTS was 67 billion cubic meters in 2015.
