Duterte complains of U.S. to Putin: They are making wars, but are themselves afraid of participating in them.

Presidents of Russia and Philippines, Vladimir Putin and Rodrigo Duterte, on Saturday discussed development of bilateral ties on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru.

At the outset of the meeting, Putin noted that this year Russia and Philippines mark the 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. “This is a short period from historical point of view, but we have managed to do very much for the development of comprehensive partnership ties and growth of confidence,” Putin said, RIA Novosti reports.

Duterte thanked Putin for the congratulation and confessed that he was looking forward to meeting with him. “Not only because you represent a great country, but also because of your leadership qualities,” he said.

Duterte noted that his country always wanted to be part of the western world. “However, currently western nations are trying to attack small countries and intimidate them, which is indicative of their bigotry,” Duterte said.

In his words, “they are making wars, but are themselves afraid of participating in them.” As a negative example Duterte mentioned the example of U.S., which initiates conflicts in different countries - in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. “This is a destructive policy,” he said.
