Russia and India are expected to sign an agreement for Moscow to deliver state-of-the-art S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft weapon systems and for joint production of 200 Kamov 226T helicopters.
The deal, worth well over $1 billion, is expected to amplify India'a defense systems and replace the country's aging helicopter fleet. President Vladimir Putin and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet on the sidelines of the annual BRICS summit between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to finalize agreements.
"An agreement on the delivery of S-400 Triumf anti-missile defence systems and other deals will be signed as a result of the talks," Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.
The deal for the S-400 surface-to-air missiles systems, Moscow's most sophisticated air defense systems, was cleared for purchase in December. It will likely be used to protect areas that include nuclear power plants and government centers.
The Kamov helicopters are expected to replace the country's Cheetah and Chetak fleets, now outdated and obsolete.
"The contract for export and joint production of 200 Ka-226T helicopters is one of the key projects in the framework of trade and industrial relations between Russia and India. We plan to expand them in both military-technical and civilian areas," Sergey Chemezov, CEO and head of Rostec, said.
