Palestinian cell planning to assassinate Fatah officials in Nablus arrested

The Palestinian general intelligence service has arrested a cell planning to assassinate three Fatah officials in the Northern West Bank city of Nablus, a Palestinian Authority security source revealed.

According to the PA security source, the cell, composed of four people, three of them members of the Palestinian security services, was arrested two months ago.

One of those arrested was a high-ranking PA security official, according to the source.

The source added that the suspects were planning to assassinate a number of dignitaries and national political and Palestinian leaders in the city of Nablus.

The most prominent targets included a member of the Executive Committee of the Organization Bassam Ashakaa, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council Jamal Tirawi, and secretary of the Revolutionary Council of Fatah Ameen Maqboul.

A Palestinian security source said Tuesday that the security services are still searching for other cells that they believe to exist in the West Bank and that these cells receive outside support.
