Iraqi army warns civilians ahead of offensive to retake Mosul from ISIS/ISIL

An Iraqi military offensive to recapture the city of Mosul from the Islamic State group appeared to be imminent on Sunday, with local militias reportedly saying an assault would commence within days.

Witnesses said on Sunday that airstrikes had destroyed one of the main bridges in Iraq's second-largest city, which is the militant group's last stronghold in the country, CNN said.

Iraqi media outlets reported that troops were only about 15 kilometers away from Mosul, suggesting that the start of the offensive was only hours away.
