Russian warplanes wipe out 250 Islamic State militants north of Palmyra — General Staff

Russia’s warplanes have attacked a group of "Islamic State" "militants" north of Palmyra killing hundreds of terrorists, the first deputy chief of the General Staff’s main operations directorate, Viktor Poznikhir, told the media on Wednesday.

"The struggle against the Islamic State* (outlawed in Russia - TASS) is continuing. On Tuesday the Russian aerospace force delivered strikes in an area north of Palmyra where groups of Islamic State militants* were gathering for an offensive on the city," Poznikhir told a news briefing at Russia’s national defense control center.

The militants lost 250 men killed and fifteen pickup trucks armed with large caliber machineguns and anti-aircraft rocket launchers, he added.
