Kremlin: Allegations of using chlorine gas in Idleb are media fabrications

The Kremlin refuted the claims by some mass media outlets about the use of chlorine gas in Idleb countryside in response to the downing of a Russian helicopter by terrorists on Monday.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to allegations that Saraqeb city in Idleb countryside was shelled last night with barrels containing chlorine that these claims are fabricated by the media, wondering about the sources that generated these claims.

Terrorists shot down with anti-air weapons a Russian Mi-8 transport helicopter in Idleb countryside as it was returning to Hmeimim airbase after delivering humanitarian aid to Aleppo, killing the five Russian soldiers on board.

  1. Dr Abdel Aziz Bareeh, who works in Saraqeb, told the BBC that two barrels of chlorine gas were dropped on the town late on Monday...

"We know it's chlorine because we were hit by it in the past and we are familiar with its odour and symptoms... We have 28 confirmed cases mostly women and children."

Separately, a spokesman for Syria Civil Defence told Reuters that 33 people had been affected in the attack.

The organisation of volunteer rescue workers said it suspected the barrels contained chlorine but were unable to confirm it.

Chlorine is a common industrial chemical, but its use in weapons is banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention.....http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-36951783
