ISIS/ISIL takes responsibility for Yemen bomb; at least 60 dead

A suicide bombing Monday at a military compound in Aden, Yemen, killed at least 60 people, hospital officials said.

Dozens of others were injured, authorities reported.

The Islamic State's news agency said the organization was responsible for the attack, in which a bomb-laden car was driven into a building used for training of the Popular Resistance, a pro-government militia.

The attack came as momentum for another round of peace negotiations, between the Yemeni government and Iran-backed Houthi rebels, was building. Both sides were responsive to a U.S. plan calling for a rebel retreat from the capital city of Sanaa and the start of talks on forming a unity government.

The government has the support of a Saudi-led coalition which has carried out airstrikes on Houthi positions since March 2015. Attacks by jihadist groups al-Qaida and the Islamic State are also common in Yemen's chaotic southern and southeastern area, including the port city of Aden.

The United Nations reported more than 6,500 people have been killed in the conflict since 2015, at least half of them civilians.
