The European Union states there has been no independent confirmation of the claims made by the Russian authorities regarding Ukraine's involvement in the events in Crimea, an UNIAN correspondent in Brussels reported referring to a statement of Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service.
"We have heard the claims by the Russian authorities about the alleged events in Armyansk (Crimea) as well as the statements of the Ukrainian authorities denying any involvement in any such alleged events and condemning in the strongest terms such allegations. It is also important to note that there has been no independent confirmation of the claims made by the Russian authorities," Kocijancic stated. In this context, she has noted that the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine does not have access to the peninsula.
"The EU calls for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, including in eastern Ukraine, where all parties – including Russia – must fully engage in the complete implementation of the Minsk agreements," Kocijancic said.
Kocijancic stressed the EU reiterates its condemnation and non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation.
The European Union continues to be unwavering in its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, according to Kocijancic.
