2 soldiers killed and 8 wounded in east of Ukraine

Skirmishes with pro-Russian militias left two Ukrainian soldiers dead and another eight wounded, said the spokesman for the Ukrainian President on Friday.

These sorts of skirmishes, said Alexandr Motuzianik, are becoming more frequent.

"We suffered these losses because our enemies used heavy artillery," he added.

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko warned on Thursday that the chances of Russia initiating all-out war was considerable amid the increasing tension between the two countries.

"We do not discard a Russian invasion," said Poroshenko, adding that the armed forces were prepared in the east of Ukraine and along the Crimean border.

The Crimean Peninsula, formerly Ukraine's most southerly region, was annexed by Russia in March 2014.

A week ago, Poroshenko put his army on high alert after Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Kiev of preparing attacks against Crimea.

Tensions between Ukraine and Russia increased after Moscow accused Ukrainian military intelligence troops of attempting to infiltrate Crimea with plans of sabotage on Aug. 7 and 8.

Following the accusations, Putin warned Ukraine against "the practice of terror," adding that Russia would not let such actions "slide by."
