The US government has suspended some programs for the provision of humanitarian aid to Syria after it became known about cases of theft and unfair distribution, according to The Washington Post, citing representatives of the U.S. Agency for international development (USAID).

The decision was made after a hearing on the international Affairs Committee of the house of representatives of the Congress of the United States.

The inspector General of USAID, Ann Calvaresi Barr reported on cases, when in Syria «bad people», possessing certain powers, stole food, medicine and clothing, supplied by the Americans as a humanitarian aid.

In total, it received 116 complaints of abuses in Syria and in Turkey to distribute humanitarian aid. Conducted 25 investigations, in most cases, regarding complaints of theft. In the end, frozen contracts worth about $ 240 million.

USAID strengthens the observation of the distribution of humanitarian assistance in Syria and in the camps of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
