Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are convinced in the need to exert additional efforts to settle the crises in Syria, Libya and Yemen, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday after a meeting of diplomats held on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"The diplomats considered the thorniest international issues, including the situation in Syria, Libya and Yemen; the Middle East settlement and struggle against terrorism," the ministry went on to say.
The common opinion expressed by all the diplomats was that it is necessary to exert additional efforts to make progress on the earliest settlement of those regional crises.
The Russian foreign minister said that the interests of all the parties involved should be taken into account if a fair and viable solution of those problems was to be reached.
"Questions of anti-terrorism struggle in the context of reforming the United Nations counter-terrorist architecture were discussed in principle," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
