France’s authorities have launched a smartphone app that will warn visitors of any terrorist threat two days before the start of the 2016 Euro Cup in the country, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.
The application, available in English and French, "will send within 15 minutes warnings to visitors on the level of a terrorist threat, possible terrorist attacks and other major incidents," the ministry said.
The users will have to give permission to track their location in order to receive warnings about any incidents happening nearby. Those who are concerned about their relatives can get warnings from other regions.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the decision on launching the app was taken after the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015.
The 2016 UEFA Euro Cup will be held in France between June 10 and July 10 with matches to be played in 10 different locations, namely in Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse.
