The Latvian military reported the discovery of a Russian submarine

In the National armed forces (NAF) of Latvia stated that near the Maritime border of the country was seen a Russian submarine. On Monday, April 4, according to TASS.

“In the Latvian exclusive economic zone today, at 11 sea miles from the territorial waters of the NAF today identified a Russian submarine of the Kilo class (NATO designation, diesel-electric SUBMARINE project 877/636 — CA. “Ribbon.ru”)”, — stated in the message of military Department.

According to the Ministry of defence of Latvia, Russian warplanes and ships in 2015 were approaching the borders of the country more than 270 times, and in 2014 — more than 250 times.

The Latvian authorities have repeatedly stated the presence of Russian military ships near Maritime borders of the Republic. Thus, on 15 March representatives of the HBC Baltic countries stated that near the Maritime border were spotted two Russian warships and a submarine.

On August 2 last year by the Latvian defense Ministry reported that five nautical miles from the territorial waters of the Russian ship spotted “Victor Kopecky”, whose tug was the minelayer “Alexander Obukhov”.

In turn, Moscow has repeatedly stressed that all flights of the Russian air and space forces of movement and ships are committed in strict compliance with international legal norms.
