Fire at Kerala's Puttingal temple leaves dozens dead

In India in a fire that broke out in the temple, killing at least 75 people and more than 200 injured, according to the magazine India Today.

Those with most serious burns injuries are being treated at the government medical college in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital.

The incident occurred in the Hindu temple town of Kollam in Kerala on the South-West of the country. The fire started Sunday, April 10, at about 03:30 (01:00 GMT) during the new year celebrations.

According to preliminary data, the cause of fire could be an explosion of fireworks. As writes the newspaper the Indian Express, the police permission for the use of fireworks is not allowed.


Fireworks and firecrackers are commonly used at temple festivals and other public events and accidents are not uncommon.

Authorities began investigating the incident. The government promised to pay compensation to the victims and families of victims.
