Suspicious NGOs in Idomeni investigated by ELAS

A new dangerous call to the refugees to cross the border with FYROM [*] from Eidomeni is observed in recent days, with unknown persons spreading rumors and distributing maps of the routes of the… grand exodus.

Since the last time when 700 refugees crossed the border with FYROM, the prosecuting authorities had recorded 15 NGOs, mainly of medical care and feeding, four of which, however, have a “strange” subject: tackling trafficking. There are also some Greeks, French, Italian and German volunteer activists, whose activities are under investigation.

To the irresponsible speculation is also added the call that has been addressed through social networks and websites of anti-authoritarian environment, regarding a march to open the border.

There were some who were quick to respond to the new “call”, with the authorities trying once again to convince the refugees that the border is closed and that they must be moved to accommodation centers.
The spokesman of the coordination organ for the refugee crisis, G. Kiritsis, stated that the authorities have increased their efforts to inform the people that the borders are closed, and denounced the fact that either with good or bad intention expectations are being created to the already troubled people.

He did not rule out the possibility that there are some who play games at the refugees’ expense and assured that the government’s effort to carry the people from Idomeni to a better place continues.

This time as well, members of the competent prosecuting authorities are examining the role of volunteer activists and members of “strange” NGOs, seeking information on those responsible for the spreading of the news about the “open borders”. With the help of translators statements will be taken from refugees in Idomeni, in an attempt by prosecutors to reach the original source from which false information have spread. Through this process the police attempts to locate the “tracks” of those who sell false hope to refugees and those who distribute leaflets with maps of crossings in Skopje, which naturally quickly finds appeals to the strained refugees, who seek to find a way Northern Europe.

Senior officers of the Police are even considering the possibility that the specific actions emanate from persons who thereby seek the “image commerce” of the pain and misery of refugees, and its subsequent exportation to the international media, with unknown motives.
