Head of the Syrian delegation to Geneva peace talks called the US to exert pressure over the armed groups in Syria and over their sponsor states including Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, so that it can push the Geneva talks forward.
Speaking to reporters in Geneva Tuesday night, Bashar Al-Jaafari stressed that "Russia cannot practice pressures to push peace talks hours before a meeting between US and Russian foreign ministers kicks off in Moscow."
The Syrian Diplomat stated that "all talks about pressure exerted by Russia on the Syrian government to make concessions is a misreading," adding, "When we say that the dialogue must be between Syrians, without outside intervention, this also applies to the Russians and Americans. There are no exceptions here."
Moreover, Jaafari stated on Wednesday that he received from UN envoy Stefan de Mistura a working paper that will be reviewed and discussed after returning to Damascus.
His comments came as US Secretary of State John Kerry was heading to Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, hoping to build momentum for the Syrian peace drive.
