Hamas and Fatah allegedly agree to elections in next 6 months

Rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas have reportedly agreed to hold elections within the next six months, according to a senior Palestinian official cited in the Times of Israel. The agreement would see a national unity government formed and elections for the legislative council and presidency held.

The senior official, Fatah Central Committee member Mohammed Ashtiya, said that the reconciliation talks had started in February in Doha, Qatar, where some of Hamas' leadership is based, the Times of Israel said.

The Palestine Liberation Organization guidelines would be the basis for the functioning of the unity government, according to the report.

Hamas was reportedly represented by Khaled Meshaal and Moussa Abu Marzouk, while Fatah Central Committee members Azzam al-Ahmad and Sakhr Basiso were also in attendance...
