Turkish PM asks Serbian President to help improve relations with Russia

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic accepted on Tuesday a request by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to help overcome his country's conflict with Russia after the downing of a Russian warplane by Turkish forces on November 24.

Davutoglu arrived here on Monday for a two day visit. During his visit, Davutoglu had official meetings with Serbian leaders and participated in a bilateral business forum along with a delegation of 130 businessmen from his country.

According to the press release by the Serbian President's cabinet, Davutoglu invited Nikolic on Tuesday to help fulfill Turkey's "wishes to have normal relations with Russia", which Nikolic accepted.

Davutoglu brought to Nikolic greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and said that Serbia represents a "great and an important country for Turkey".

In his Monday's meeting with Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Davutoglu said the diplomatic crisis with Russia will not harm the development of good relations between Serbia and Turkey.
