Woman blows herself up during Paris police raid

Two people were killed, including a woman who blew herself up, during a police assault in north Paris targeting the suspected mastermind of Friday's attacks.

Three others were arrested following the dawn raids, as loud explosions and automatic weapon fire were heard in the center of Saint-Denis just north of the capital.

Earlier, a source said the operation aimed at the suspected ISIS mastermind of the attacks, Belgian Abdelhamid Abaaoud, and police had been wounded in the shootout.

Police said earlier between two and four people were holed up in the apartment.

The area is home to the Stade de France, one of several places hit by gunmen and suicide bombers on Friday in the worst ever attack on French soil, which was claimed by the militant group.

The coordinated assaults killed 129 people and injured more than 350, some of them critically.

Abaaoud, 27, initially thought to have pulled the strings from Syria, was believed to be among a group of people holed up in an apartment in the northern suburb near the national soccer stadium, which was one of the sites attacked by suicide bombers last week, the source said.

Around 50 French soldiers were deployed to the northern Paris suburb. They were posted along the main high street near the apartment................http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/world/2015/11/18/Shooting-reported-in-northern-edge-of-Paris.html

  1. Two Killed in Raid Targeting Mastermind of Paris Attacks ...

Shooting and multiple explosions were heard Wednesday as police launched a raid in a Paris suburb targeting the Islamic State militant suspected of being the mastermind of last Friday's attacks in the French capital.

Authorities said they were seeking Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a Belgian national of Moroccan descent, and that at least one person was still holed up in an apartment in Saint-Denis five hours after the operation began.

In addition to the suicide bomber, police said one other person was killed and three officers were injured.

A statement from the prosecutor's office said three people from the apartment were arrested and two other individuals were detained near the site.

Authorities are also looking for other suspects tied to the November 13 attacks that killed 129 people and injured more than 300 others. Three officials, who spoke late Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details about the ongoing investigation, said an analysis of Friday's attacks indicated one person directly involved was unaccounted for.............http://www.voanews.com/content/gunfire-in-paris-as-france-hunts-2nd-fugitive/3062957.html
