Massive rally in Kabul to condemn beheading of civilians by ISIL/ISIS

Thousands of people staged a massive demonstration in Kabul on Wednesday condemning the barbaric beheading of seven civilians by militants in the southern Afghan province of Zabul last Saturday.

The seven civilians - four men, two women and a child - were kidnapped from Gilan District of eastern Ghazni province one month ago and their remains were found in Khak-e-Afghan district of neighboring Zabul province on Saturday.

Both the locals and officials accused militants loyal to the Islamic State outfit or Daesh of beheading the abductees.

Neither Taliban nor Daesh has claimed responsibility for the brutal act.

Chanting slogans "Death to Taliban," "Death to Daesh," the protestors, including men and women from all walks of life, demanded the government bring to justice the perpetrators as soon as possible.

  • Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Afghanistan's capital on Wednesday with coffins carrying the bodies of seven ethnic Hazara demanding justice after their beheadings.

The protests included women and men from Afghanistan's different ethnic groups - Pashtun, Tajik, Uzbek, and Hazara - as they marched on the Presidential Palace to urge the government to take action against rising violence against Afghan civilians.

According to Afghan officials, the Hazara hostages were captured by ISIL fighters more than a month ago and held in Arghandab district of Zabul province.

Three women, two children, and two men had been beheaded with razor wire, officials said. Their bodies were discovered by the Taliban who handed them over to tribal elders on Saturday in Ghazni province, from where they were abducted.

"We will continue to fight for the safety of our family," civil rights activist Shahzaman Hashemi told Al Jazeera. "This is our right to feel safe. Whatever happened to those women and children can happen to us as well."

The Afghan government announced a national day of mourning on Wednesday over the killings.

'Had enough'

Maryam Jamal, who also took part in the march, said it was important to pressure the government to halt the escalating violence in the country. "They've now started killing women and children," she said.

"It can be me tomorrow, can be my children. This protest is historic and we are adamant to not back off until something is done about this. We've had enough.".............http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/11/afghans-protest-killings-hazara-isil-151110135854342.html

  1. Afghan presidential guards opened fire on Wednesday to disperse thousands of protesters marching outside the palace compound in Kabul to denounce recent abductions and killings of seven members of the Hazara Shia minority...

The shooting, which the Public Health Ministry said wounded seven people, occurred as some of the demonstrators tried to scale the walls of the palace at Pashtunistan Square. It was not immediately clear if President Ashraf Ghani was inside the heavily fortified palace at the time.

Shortly afterward, Ghani went live on national television, appealing for calm and promising the Hazara deaths would be avenged. ``The nation's pain is my pain,'' he said, vowing the authorities would have ``no mercy'' on the killers.

Ghani said ``enemies of Afghanistan'' were trying to create disunity and ``bring ethnic and sectarian violence'' to the country as they had done in Iraq................http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/south-asia/Afghan-guards-open-fire-at-Kabul-rally-against-Hazara-deaths/articleshow/49748621.cms
